When the pressure readings are much higher - - consistently

Obtain a history and thorough PE

Determine damage of the target organs, See what you find:

Heart, kidney, brain, and eyes.

Lifestyle changes: decrease weight and salt, aerobic exercise. . . Drink alcohol in moderation.

DASH diet: rich in fruits and veggies . . . low in fat intake.

Reassess the patient’s pressure.

If these changes do not help to maintain normal outcomes

The med regimen begins.

Hydrochlorothiazide plus combinations of ACE, ARBS, and blockers.
