Sister Love

Every other weekend a couple drove Betty Marie to a children's home to visit her thirteen-year-old sister, Patty.

These trips of sisterly love ended abruptly. Betty Marie had been adopted at thirteen months old. Patty never saw her again.The heartache of never knowing where little Betty Marie was, or if she was okay, lasted nearly seventy years.

Once adopted, Betty Marie adjusted to loving foster parents who quickly changed her name to Lana. When Lana grew old enough to question why she landed in foster care, her adoptive mother openly shared every detail to reduce the angst.

Even when an adoptive couple is filled with love, faith, and support, questions swirl about in the minds of adopted children. Not knowing is hard for everyone. Lana felt unloved and unwanted by her biological family all her life. She even tried DNA testing, which seemed futile. She reached out to a possible match and gave up when no one responded.

Lana is a fighter. For the last ten years she has fought cancer. So many people have prayed and prayed. This past year has been especially difficult, and at one point healthcare providers suggested hospice. But God had different plans.

Prayer warriors hounded heaven for healing, and God healed in the most unbelievable way. About three weeks ago, a woman named Kim reached out to Lana after receiving results from a DNA sample. She was the same woman Lana tried to contact a few years earlier. She is Lana’s niece. Her mother is Patty, that precious teenager who loved her sister so much and still does.

When we pray for healing for those in our lives, remember God knows what wounds need attention better than we do. We want physical healing and for Patty, Lana, and Kim, the healing was relational.

On her Facebook page, Lana posted, “I belong!”

Amazed, she kept saying, “I’ve been loved all my life.”

Everyone of us who prayed rejoice. The Lord healed the greatest need of two sisters’ hearts. We never dreamt such a miracle could happen. Many of us never knew this intimate need.

Imagine lonely Lana, the lost piece looking for the perfect fit in her family portrait puzzle. What a blessing to find Patty searching for the very same piece. What once was lost is found.

What a picture of how much God loves each of us as if there were only one of us. Only God can write such a love story.
How many of us know that God has loved us all our lives. If we seek Him, we will find him. He’s been there all the time. Lana said, “I didn’t know but my family has been there all the time, and I thought I had no one.”
