Blooms of July 2025
Some of my most precious gifts are plants from friends. In my bay window a wild thing grows out of control. My friend, Deanna, gave me a start of her mom's 50-year-old Cereus or "Night Bloomer" as a retirement gift.
What a lovely plant. But you might say, it is a gift that keeps on giving
and growing and growing and last night it bloomed!
I thought about snipping the octopus-like tentacles, but never could.
Life lesson:
Even the wildest uncontrolled will bloom
beautifully in their own time.
Sometimes we just need to let them grow!
This year our gardens received so much rain and heat they went wild too.
The hydrangeas are loaded. I can't believe how many perfectly
shaped petals they sport and they smell so sweet.
The navy perennial salvia shows off every year. Along with
the pink phlox and yellow primrose.
And the critters tickle me. One morning I spied an early riser.
At 5:30 am, this gorgeous red fox chowed down sunflower seeds
and got a slugged of water for his snack before he went to bed.
He works nights!
And every day the bunnies chase each other through our yard
and gardens as if competing in a critter marathon. Between
them and the squirrels, entertainment never ceases!
I do hope this July you take time to enjoy the flowers and the critters
in your life. Watch out for the blooms. You don't want to miss them.
I marvel at how the Lord made so much for us to enjoy.
Find a special bloom in your life and share it!
Always yours,
Dr. Donna
