Switched at Birth
Holiday gatherings can create wild emotions and gobs of entertainment when you discover what a blessing it is to share life with crazy, dysfunctional people. When we learn to embrace family chaos as rich fodder for share-worthy stories, we can actually enjoy our festivities. My Thanksgiving gift to you is sharing untold true stories from the file of my life labeled, Unbelievable but true!
My little Sissy begged me for years to
"Spit in a tube. Donna, please spit in a tube. I don't belong to this family. I know I was switched at birth."
What? DNA testing? Really? I never caved to her request until the day she called and said, "Our big brother and I just spit in tubes and now you have to, too. And so I did.
Did you know there are DNA angel people who help to discover the truth when testing results end in discrepancies?
Oh, yes the results did prove discrepancies.
I was hoping I was the one switched at birth but the findings showed my little sister had a different dad. And my Sis kept calling me. "Donna do you know any of mom's old flames? We couldn't come up with any potential beaus but within twenty-four hours the angel did.
My sister's grandfather was a womanizer who loved to entice young women to hotels and fathered several children. Of course he was married so the pregnant girls gave their kiddos their maiden names and one woman, out of fear of his wife, put her daughter up for adoption. This daughter even found her mother!
Once we found out the name of my sister's biological father, she confronted my narcissistic mother who denied all. No surprise.
But my precious sister reached out to her father's daughter and they kindled a wonderful loving relationship.
Now the amazing part of the story. All of these kids the grandfather fathered are now adults. Talk about amazing family, when they heard about my sister, the cell towers pinged all over the states. The message went wild.
"We found another one! We found another one!"
And this group of nontraditional family members have reunions and love each other like crazy. My sweet sister looks just like one of her beautiful cousins. Sweet story with icing of sadness for me.
My sister's biological father is dead and her new half-sister told her, "My dad would have loved you."
A love relationship missed due to secrecy and shame.
If you are like us and don't have an earthly father or grandfather this Thanksgiving, please remember the Heavenly Father loves you, always has, and always will.
That's a relationship I don't want anyone of us to miss! Once you fall in love with Him the family of God can cry out, "We found another one!"
God bless you this Thanksgiving!
Love and prayers today and always,
Donna
